Renee

Welcome to Revknits. My name is Renee and yes, I’m officially a Reverend who knits. I am glad to do both in this world, and have found my place among those who inhabit faith communities as well as those in the fiber communities.

My world of knitting began long before I started my call as clergy. Taught by a friend’s mom in about 5th or 6th grade, I’ve now been knitting for over 40 years. For much of that time, I was the only knitter I knew, but that changed in 2004 when I joined a lovely knitting group and discovered the joys of in-person group knitting as well as the online world of fiber craft!

A few years ago I realized that the internet provided a way to share my fiber interest and stories I come across, and the blog began, and shortly thereafter I started to teach knitting and begin to design patterns myself. You’ll hear how my faith connects to the fiber world, especially around spiritual practices.

I’m available for retreats, teaching, and sharing fibercraft. Feel free to contact me, I’m happy to just connect with folks as well!

Want to contact me?  I’m revknits on Ravelry.com, and you can send me a private email at —  renee@revknits.com.

Blessings and light!

  1. Dear Renee,

First, let me say that I’m a huge fan of your posts. You’re on my List Of Ravelry Favorites, and I often share your stuff with my knitting friends.

I am writing everyone on my Favorites List with a couple of questions. If you can answer them for me, it would be a HUGE HUGE HUGE favor. Really HUGE.

Thing is, I am writing a piece on Ravelry for my college magazine. Topic is WHY Ravelry is such a huge success. I need opinions from fellow Ravelers like you to back up this claim I am making.

    These are the questions:

    1) Why did you choose to join Ravelry?

    2) How did you learn about Ravelry?

    3) What does Ravelry give you that other sites don’t?

    4) Absolutely anything else you’d like to share with me on this subject.

My quandary is this: I love the site and come here almost every week to look for knitting tips and ideas. (I haven’t joined yet, as I am too shy to talk of my own work…)

I want to understand why others do the same. Each person must have his or her own reason and I am very curious to understand this trend.

Once I write the piece, I intend to send it across to Bob the dog. Maybe, he will post it on the site to encourage newcomers or even use it for other promotion purposes.

    Thank you in advance

Keep writing, keep sharing, keep creating
    Warmest regards
    Cynthia

  2. Hi Renee,
I love your prayer shawl. I’m about to knit it up, but had a question. The pattern says that it measures 13.5 in. but looks wider in the pictures. I’m wanting it to be about 17-18 inches wide. Is there a number of stitches of repeat that I can just add on stitches to the cast on??
    Thanks!
