Unless you happened to have hi-speed internet or the right cable company, Americans could not enjoy watching this 89-year-old activist singing, on public land for God’s sake, This Land is Your Land, for the incoming administration. HBO must have missed the irony, given this verse in the famous song by Woody Guthrie:
- There was a big high wall there that tried to stop me;
- Sign was painted, it said private property;
- But on the back side it didn’t say nothing;
- That side was made for you and me.
I don’t know how long this clip will survive, here’s another try:
Addition on January 22nd: HBO apparently has seen the light. They sent me this reply to my objection to the removal of the YouTube clips of the concert at the Lincoln Memorial:
Please understand that any HBO programming is treated almost
automatically with the same type of diligence to protect our content.
However, HBO agrees this historic inaugural event should not fall under
the guidelines of our traditional original programming. Consequently,
we will be reinstating any clips of the event, with the exception of
content pieces resulting in the full coverage of the event.
